OECD-Tohoku School - Mr. Angel Gurría, Secretary General, OECD...
Following the devastating Great East Japan Earthquake that struck the Tohoku region on 11 March 2011, Secretary General of the OECD, Mr. Angel Gurría, visited Japan and expressed the OECD's commitment to support recovery efforts. One example of this support is the Directorate for Education's launch of the OECD-Tohoku School towards "creative recovery" in close collaboration with the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, Fukushima University and other key stakeholders from the affected regions. The mission of the OECD-Tohoku School is to have students from the Tohoku region organise an event that will take place in Paris in 2014 to appeal to the world to discover their imaginative and creative efforts in the recovery of their region and their country. In preparation for the event, students will attend five intensive workshops and several weekend workshops over the course of 2012 to 2014. The first workshop took place in Iwaki City, Japan on 26 March 2012, marking the launch of the OECD-Tohoku School; and these video messages were created for the launch.
